The doctor put it about as bluntly as he could. As you sat in
AND
offer some solutions for the individual and for the activity as a whole.
The flowcentrism of Debate has gone too far. Spreading, evidence fetish, and arbitrary impacts are all unnecessary for a debate round. Substance matters. We need to have a playing field to have a debate. But it should never supersede the body. In the status quo, people are sacrificing their bodies to Debate even though a debate round is nothing but the meeting of 5 bodies.
How many people in this community have died from preventable causes in the last few years? Billy Tate is just a big name. Many more are suffering in the status quo and many less successful individuals have had their lives ruined and cut short. Judge, do you want to die at 55 and leave your children alone?

About 5.3 million of the 57 million deaths worldwide in 2008 could be attributed to inactivity, the new report estimates, largely due to four major diseases: heart disease, Type 2 diabetes, breast cancer and colon cancer. The study finds that if physical inactivity could be reduced by just 10, it could avert some 533,000 deaths a year; if reduced by 25, 1.3 million deaths could be prevented. Say we got everyone off the couch and eliminated inactivity altogether: the life expectancy of the world’s population would rise by about 0.68 years (more, if you discount those who were already active), comparable to the effect of doing away with smoking or obesity.

A habit of regular exercise will help keep you mentally sharper throughout your entire life
AND
it also means more energy for your brain-http://jap.physiology.org/content/early/2011/07/28/japplphysiol.00343.2011.full.pdf+html, boosting your mental output.
To obtain these benefits, you don’t need to sweat up a storm. In

It is necessary that we begin and engage in discussions concerning wellness in Debate and propose some sort of solution. The unhealthy state of debate is the result of norms actively practiced by the community, meaning it can only be permanently changed by changing those norms, which requires us to reveal and challenge them. Failure to do so culminates in death or burnout.

We are a smart group of people. But for a group of smart people
AND
have made it important.
Through decades of debating the resolution and plan texts as detached, impersonal political statements, fiat of the USFG has indefinitely detained coaches and competitors in a state of poor health. Thus
Exercise and a healthier lifestyle are necessary for everyone, not just the unhealthy. Since this is a community problem created by community norms, everyone needs to participate in the fight against poor health, not just those who are currently unhealthy.
