Tournament: NDT | Round: 1 | Opponent: Trinity VY | Judge: Morgan, Lowry, Henry
The 1AC was a challenge to the politics of respectability.
Advocacy statement (rough): We affirm justice in this space and every space as a tactic against war powers
The role of the ballot: Vote for the team who best performatively and methodologically Deconstructs white supremacy
- We are at the NDT, this is the institution, this is the academy and because of that it is productive
The discussion of space
- It is important to redetermine space and think about the interrelation of differing epistemologies
- Systems of order have been created to impose a view of what it means to be normal and has determined how to act – these regulations have simultaneously determined what is unacceptable and the aff acts against the acceptable as a challenge
- How do we reconceive space – there are three ways
o 1.) Looking at the product of interrelations
o 2.) examining spheres of possibility
o 3.) different storys coming together ( Rough)
Discussion of History
- History is about power but traditional notions of history are based on a western and white supremacist foundation
o For this reason – Native womens voices and non-white bodies have been excluded from history and the affs performance changes this
- Exclusion comes from the writing of history through a white supremacist lens
o These ‘neutral discourses’ promote colonial and racist violence – the aff rejects that and works against them
Whiteness must be transcended and challenged – it is not beneficial to challenge whitness in the traditional way but rather it is important to continually work to undermine its pervasiveness
The 1AC ended with the reading of a poem about natives and the settler mentality
